Rare, complete set of theosophical prints by the Dutch artist, writer and theosophist Olga-Fröbe Kapteyn. Between 1927 and 1934, Fröbe-Kapteyn produced a number of striking, symbolic works she dubbed "meditation drawings.” Fourteen of these were lavishly-printed as color screenprints and published by Vincenzo Bona of Turin.

Born in London to Dutch parents, Fröbe-Kapteyn was raised in an artistic family and received formal training in painting and sculpture. After the untimely death of her husband in 1915, She traveled with her father to “the Mountain of Truth” in the Swiss village of Ascona, where she would remain most of her life. With the aid of English Theosophist Alice Bailey, Frobe-Kapteyn created an informal research center in Ascona called “Eranos.” Carl Jung proposed that she use the center as a meeting place between East and West, and it was here that she produced her “Meditation Drawings.” Geometrically precise, her work fused Eastern sacred symbols with Western, Futurism aesthetics.

Fröbe-Kaptyen’s work has received increased appreciation in recent years. A number of her paintings were shown in the New Museum’s 2016 show “The Keeper.”
