This handsome collection of photos shows a number of scenes along the New Jersey Central Railroad. Included are views of picturesque vacation destinations such as Lakewood, Deal, and Asbury Park, N.J.; images related to the company’s coal trains, which traveled through the Lehigh Valley; interior views of modern-designed train cars, including a few decorated for Christmas; exterior and interior views of the well-appointed Liberty Street Ferry terminal, as well as shots of different ferries on the water; photos of the naval station at Lakehurst, N.J.; and photos of N.J.R.R.-related billboards and murals including for the famed “Blue Comet.”
The photographer, George A.M. Morris began his photographic career in 1898 working for Gustavus Pach of the well-renowned Pach Brothers photo firm. Morris became chief photographer after Pach’s death in 1905 and retained the Pach name until 1918. After that, he was employed by the N.J. Central Railroad. He passed away in 1948.
