A dynamic example of photographic evidence, this picture documents the aftermath of a brazen bank robbery which took place at the state bank of Denbigh, a small North Dakota town, in October of 1906.

An article about the affair, published in the Grand Forks Herald, writes that "the bank was entered by "yeggemen" between 1 and 2 AM...the safe blown with nitro-glycerine and gold, silver and currency to the extent of about $2,000 taken. The robbers escaped with their booty." The explosions were heard by many locals. One of whom, staying at the near by Arlington Hotel, poked his head out of his window to behold a man guarding the bank who politely instructed him to "pull his damn head in or have it blown off."

The article goes on to point out the bank was an easy target as it had no night watch, nor no police in town.
