An unusual advertising cabinet card photograph showing the publishing house of A.L. Bancroft and Co. replete with fraternal and California-themed decorations for the Knights Templar Triennial Conclave of 1883. The company was founded by H.H. Bancroft in 1852, who handed the management over to his brother A.L. Bancroft in 1868. It is considered the first major Californian publishing company.

In late August of 1883, the 22nd Triennial Conclave of Knights Templar was held in San Francisco. It was the first time the event was held west of the Rocky Mountains. In attendance were thousands of Knights representing thirty-two United States Grand Commanderies. State and city officials, newspaper publicity, merchants and common citizens participated in what was considered a uniquely spectacular demonstration of the Masonic Order of the Temple.

There is a large crease in the bottom portion of the image, which has been repaired on verso with old tape.
