A pioneering animator, producer and director, Mary Ellen Bute was one of the first female experimental filmmakers and created some of the first electronically-generated film images. In 1937, she made the experimental film Parábola in collaboration with Ted Nemeth and sculptor Rutherford Boyd. This portrait of Boyd appears on the cover of the 1983 catalog, “Science Into Art: the Abstract Sculpture and Drawings of Rutherford Boyd (1882-1951).”
