An exceedingly rare assemblage, showcasing some of the earliest photographs of Egypt, by one of the medium’s preeminent early photographers, Felix Teynard. The present album contains forty-two salt print photographs from Teynard’s seminal publication “Egypte et Nubie.” In one photograph, titled “Edfou (Apollonopolis Magna)”, the sky and a tiny sliver of the Nile river have been delicately hand-colored.
The plates have been trimmed to approximately 12 x 15 inches, retaining the printed captions but without the original plate numbers. There is mild foxing / water-damage to about half of the sheets, not affecting the images. Early 20th-century re-binding.
