STOP: a graphic press photo from 1973, oddly trimmed and uniquely overpainted. This particular press print features crop-marks and reworking applied to the print’s surface by an unknown photo-editor. The reason for this is to essentially remove the subject from its background, subsequently creating a more direct or powerful image when printed in press. This photograph possesses a newspaper clipping on verso where the final result is visible. The graphic quality of this image and minimal nature evoke notions of American word art from the same period.
