A charming set of photos showing Parisians casting their gazes upwards to view the 1912 eclipse of the sun. One charming photo shows a group of people huddled over a puddle, using it as a makeshift mirror in order to view the celestial event. There is also one photo of a group of astronomers at L'Observatoire à Meudon (Paris Observatory), photographing the eclipse with a telescope.
The photos were take by the French photographer Maurice Louis-Branger, printed by the noted photographer Joseph Breitenbach in 1945, in conjunction with a solar eclipse that took place on July 9th of that year. The captions on the back date the photos to 1908, but other institutionally-held examples of these photos date them to 1912.
