Artist Sebastiano Arpaia appropriates photographs found in souvenir booklets, travel postcards, and roadside magazines produced in the latter half of the 20th century. His mixed-media works are heavily rooted in a similar visual language, and the two ways of image-making converge effortlessly into one unified body of work. Untitled (Butte #1) is a recomposed photograph originating from a minute souvenir image. Arpaia creates a close cropping with the road jutting across the lower portion of the frame, alluding to ideas of a changing Western landscape.
