A very rare and early Utah portrait of a Shoshone man and woman by the SLC photo firm of Savage and Ottinger. This image was published by Savage and Ottinger in the 1860s, and an institutional copy appears with a manuscript caption identifying one of the subjects as "Lo-Thute-Wess of S. Lake."
A large-format version of this image was published by W.H. Jackson in 1869 with the title "Venus and Adonis, Shoshones."
There is a period notation on the back, incorrectly identifying them as "Californians."
