Charming cabinet card portrait of Don, the Champion Greyhound of the world who was, according the pink advert affixed to the back of the photo, capable of performing over thirty-five tricks including a balancing act on a rocking chair in motion. In 1898, Don the greyhound made headlines and history when he became the first dog to be photographed by another dog. According to newspaper accounts, the act was performed in front of a live audience and Don elegantly posed for his portrait while a little tan terrier pressed his paw on the button.

Don's trainer was J.A. Hoyt, whose image and signature also appear on the advert. Dubiously referred to as "professor", Hoyt toured the eastern seaboard with a stable of trained English greyhounds, showing them off while extolling the virtues of his patented "Hoyt's Magic Ointment."
