An interesting typological group of photographs presenting 1870s military equipment and and how it should be correctly worn.
The four photos offer front and back views of an Indian-Wars era soldier modeling a black leather infantry harness replete with knapsack, haversack, bedroll and clothing bag. He also sports a carriage box for a Springfield rifle.
The photos were taken by Carl "C.C." Griers, a Nashville commercial artist who photographed both Confederate and Union soldiers.
