The crowd witnessed him scale "a flight of fourteen 6-inch steps, at 3 grade of 43 per cent, by a twenty horse power REO car."

Two years earlier Shettler made headlines when he climbed the steps of the Los Angeles courthouse in an REO but he emphasized his feat in front of the garage was twice as difficult (because there were twice as many stairs).
