Identified legends include Tom Morey, John McFarland, Gordon Miller, and Bo Beck.
Born in Hermosa Beach, 1917, Grannis was an avid documenter of California surf culture in the late fifties and sixties. An amateur surfer himself, Grannis once declared the key to his artistic and professional success was that, "Knowing surfing makes a good surf photographer." In 2006, TASCHEN published a major retrospective of his work entitled "LeRoy Grannis: Birth of a Culture." -
