Late 19th-century album comprising 21 photographs of California by Isaiah W. Taber, and one by Charles Roscoe Savage.
The selection of images present a survey-type compilation of Taber’s commercial photographs. Included are views of San Francisco; showing Golden Gate Park, the Palace Hotel, Cliff House, Chinatown, and the ever-memorable overlook of the Golden Gate from Telegraph Hill. Southern California is represented in the latter section of the album, with photographs of picturesque Monterey, well-composed shots of Missions in Santa Barbara and San Diego, among other scenes of the region. Two photographs depict the Solano railroad ferry, the first, showing the boat docked along the Sacramento River, and the second, by C.R. Savage, taken while aboard the ship’s deck at Port Costa, California.
