This fascinating broadside advertises an auction of paintings by numerous 19th-century California artists including Harvey Young, Gideon Jacques Denny, Charles Dorman Robinson, Norton Bush, Astley David Middleton Cooper, Emmanuel Wyttenbach, Meyer Strauss, Ransome Gillett Holdridge, and others. The event was a marathon three days, and took place at Sweeney's Building on Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz. While the broadside is undated, we have found an advertisement for a similar sale in San Francisco in November of 1879.
