An unusual and graphically-compelling collection of elaborately overpainted photographs showing Philadelphia area storefronts in the 1920s. Likely created for a real estate or city survey, each photograph is mounted to board, with the building’s location noted in pen on the verso.

The most notable business in the group is Milton Bradley, which at the time had a handful of offices throughout the country. Other Philadelphia businesses shown include the Philadelphia Lamp Co.; Jacob Rechter, a tailor; C.S. Gibson, shoe manufacturers; F.C. Hornbeck Auto necessities and Triplok Rim Co.; Giles, an electronics supply; Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.; Dorazios, a clothing store; Loux furniture; A.H. Zayotti and Co., a wool shop; Ment Hardware, a funeral supply company; and an unidentified candy shop.
