A handsome and scarce prospectus for Hanchett Park on the beautiful Alameda in San Jose, California. The booklet contains fifteen pages of text and photo-illustrations, extolling the virtues of this “Residence par excellence” as well as a double-page map of the area.
Development for Hanchett Residence Park began in 1907. The streets were laid out by John McClaren, long-time Golden Gate Park Superintendent and horticulturist. The area was notable for having electric streetlights, a streetcar service, and a modern sewer system (which are noted in the text). The homes were built in a variety of styles including Craftsman, Mission Revival, Prairie, and others. The area contains San Jose’s greatest concentration of 1910-20 craftsman homes.
Some water-staining to pages, otherwise good condition.
