A graphic and early example of the "salesman's sample album," offering an array of "Packing Trunks, Valises, Bags etc." manufactured and retailed by the Boston-based company Easter and Winship.
The album possesses an intriguing visual quality due to the photographer's clever use of a Stereoview Camera to produce side-by-side images showing trunks both opened and closed; single and stacked; or the both sides of various bags and cases. To achieve this result, one lens would have been blocked while the shutter was tripped, and vice versa for the second photograph.
The album begins with a letterpress printed title page, and each of the sequential pages feature the company's name and address stenciled to the upper margin, alongside fancy manuscript names for the products such as "Classic Nailed California," "No. 1 Saratoga," and "Fancy Trunks."
