A fascinating and tidy presentation album showing the first of the Federal University of Viçosa, known then as the Escola Superior de Agricultura e Veterinaria (Higher College of Agriculture and Veterinary Science), with interesting views of the grounds, facilities, stately exteriors, and staff.
The Federal University of Viçosa was created in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in 1922, with classes beginning five years later. Floridian agronomist Peter Henry Rolfs, a member of faculty featured in the album was the director of the Florida Agriculture Experiment Station from 1905 to 1920, and Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Florida from 1915 to 1920. Rolfs moved to Brazil to co-found the university, which today is one of the most prestigious in Brazil, with a student body of approximately 20,000 students.
