Vincent Lushington “Roi” Ottley was one of the best-known African American correspondents in the United States during the mid-20th century. He started his career working for the Amsterdam News in 1931, where he was a correspondent for six years. He also worked for the New York City Writers’ Project, the CIO War Relief Committee, the Chicago Tribune, and broadcast reports for both CBS and the BBC.
