The Chicago-based outfit W. H. Long Incorporated manufactured the Post-Lite, an exterior light intended for "every business open at night." “Light your premises—and advertise too!” reads the header of one page from this charming presentation album, containing dense, dynamic photo-collages of businesses lit by the Post-Lite. In each and every case, the light provided by the fixtures has been exaggerated and the casements have been outlined by an illustrator, to show off the Post-Lite at its very best.
“Our business showed us that used car buyers do most of their looking at night,” reads one testimonial. “So we installed your 8-tube Post-Lites on 2” pipe posts. Now we need twice as many salesmen at night. Best investment we ever made.” “Owners of business buildings,” another page notes, “find Post-Lites a well-paying investment. Increased store traffic keeps stores leased and at better rentals.” Another page dramatically declares that use of the product, "GLAMORIZES what it advertises," "OUTLIGHTS every competitive sign," "DOMINATES the entire block," and "RADIATES like a sun in the night!"
The lights could be painted by “local sign painters” to feature a company’s name or logo. There is a particular emphasis on car dealerships; towards the back of the book, diagrams of suggested light layouts for car lots are features, along with instructions on how to measure how many lights you need for a given space. The album also includes four oversized pamphlets advertising various specific product lines.
