The album begins with a photographic reproduction of an insurance letter, where the building is interestingly referred to as the “Own Your Own Office Building.” This is followed by three photographic reproductions of illustrations that have been extensively embellished with graphite and colored pencil, showing art deco designs for the exterior, sun parlor and roof garden, and lobby. The last section of the album contains five handsome floor plans, also artistically embellished, and then a blueprint of the block, notating the building’s location. Newspaper accounts at the time refer to the Westlake Professional Building as, “a nine-story class ‘A’ reinforced concrete structure on the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Orange Avenue” (later renamed Westlake Avenue).
Overall, an interesting and attractive example of commercial design in California’s flourishing days of the early 20th century.
