Shot on a rooftop in Paris in the early 1850s, this image of a robust pile of vegetables and a saucepan was completed by the pioneering French-born American photographer John Beasley Greene (1832-1856). It was created during a formative period for the artist, before his excursions to Egypt, when he was studying the “New Art” of photography under the tutelage of Gustav Le Gray.
