Rare trio of large-format images showing life on the Rosebud Indian reservation by the noted photographer John Alvin Anderson.
The images are captioned "The Watering Place," "Resting," and "Sioux Squaws Preparing Meal." They are all finely hand-colored. Large format images by Anderson are rather scarce, with most available examples being studio portraits, not in situ as these are.
They all exhibit some condition issues around the border, most prominently the image of the women cooking. There is a crack in the left corner, which has been repaired with tape some time ago. The image titled "Resting" exhibits an impression of the tape from the cooking image, likely as it sat on top of it for many decades. But overall, a rare and handsome suite!
