A handsome presentation album with portraits of notable American artists, mainly of the Hudson Valley school but also some White Mountain, NYC and genre painters.
The photos themselves are not CDVs, but cabinet cards which have been trimmed to fit the album pages. They were all trimmed in the same fashion, and clearly done around the time of the photos’ creations. The album itself is quite attractive, with a lovely gold fore-edge design.
The majority of the pictures were taken by Abraham Bogardus, and a few by Sarony. Many of the portraits are seemingly unpublished and taken as a whole, the album represents a significant photographic assemblage of 19th-century American artists.
The list of artists, as the appear in the album, is as follows:
A.T. Bricher; F.W. Casilear; Samuel Colman; Asher B. Durand; Martin Johnson Heade; David Johnson; Jervis McEntee; William Trost Richards;; Aaron D. Shattuck; Worthington Whitteredge; Alexander H.
