Francis Hacker was an early American commercial photographer who began his career as a daguerreotypist in Augusta, Maine, then briefly operating in Massachusetts before settling in Providence, Rhode Island, 1862. A year later, he claimed to have photographed over one thousand “public buildings and manufactories.” While that number seems suspiciously robust, he was a prolific operator who made CDVS, portraits, outdoor and aerial views, and much more. By the 1890s, he was still running his studio in Providence, now called the Hacker Photograph Co.
