In 1977, the great American artist Romare Bearden provided the poster design for the New Federal Theatre’s revival of the 1936 production of "Macbeth". Sometimes referred to as, “Voodoo Macbeth,” the original production, put on the Federal Theatre Project, was staged with an all-Black cast and moved the action of the play from Medieval Scotland to 19th-century Haiti. It was directed by a 21-year-old Orson Welles and was a major success. The revival used the original promptbook and starred Lex Monson and Lester Rolle.
