A large and impressive, early 20th-century trade sign for the Yick Chong Co, the first Chinese grocery store in Sacramento, CA.
Dong Haw emigrated from China to Sacramento in the 1880s. In 1911, he opened the Yick Chong Co. at 306 Eye Street in East Sacramento. By the 1920s, they were selling fireworks and by the 1930s they were advertising themselves as general Chinese merchants and one of the pioneer mercantile firms of the state.
