An exceedingly rare assemblage of some of the earliest photographs of Egypt, created by one of the medium’s preeminent early photographers, Felix Teynard.
The present album contains forty-two salt print photographs from Teynard’s seminal publication “Egypte et Nubie.” In one photograph, titled “Edfou (Apollonopolis Magna)”, the sky and a tiny sliver of the Nile river have been hand-colored with blue pigment.
The plates have been trimmed to approximately 12 x 15 inches, retaining the original printed captions but without the original plate numbers. About half of the mounts exhibit scattered foxing which does not affect the images. Later binding (late 19th-century).
