A rare property and business atlas for downtown Los Angeles, produced by H.K. Sim and his outfit “Sims Survey and Service Co.”
The atlas is in a small loose leaf pocket folder. It contains a large, two-part folding map which shows the “Property Holding, Improvement and Tenancy Survey of the Central Business District of Los Angeles, California.” This map gives the name of each business, the type of material used in construction of each building, the number of floors and type of usage. The atlas also contains an index map and approximately 40 block maps, covering the area bounded by First Street, Pico Street, Figueroa and Los Angeles Street.
There is surprisingly little information available about H.K. Sims and his survey company. In the mid-1920s he worked with the Rapid Blue Print Company of Los Angeles and in 1937 he produced another slightly updated version of the present atlas.
