In conjunction with their 1940 exhibition "Twenty Centuries of Mexican Art," the Museum of Modern Art commissioned Jose Clemente Orozco to paint a fresco in six moveable panels (intended to be arranged in any order). Assisted by Lewis Rubenstein and often painting before the public, Orozco completed his work in ten days. The finished product, titled "Dive Bomber and Tank," depicts abstracted elements of mechanical warfare.
This photograph is reproduced in the 1943 book "The Latin American Collection of the Museum of Modern Art" by Lincoln Kirstein.
