Dynamic poster announcing visiting New York Artists at California State College at Hayward. Among the visiting artists are a number of important African American artists including Romare Bearden, William Williams, Jacob Lawrence, William Majors, Raymond Saunders, Benny Andrews as well as Atonio Frasconi, Malcolm Morley, Frank Roth, and Stanley Landsman.
A 1969 Oakland Tribune profile of Andrews and his work with the Hayward students notes that, "the program was designed to acquaint art students with the unique and varying work of artists from the East Coast. While in the Bay Area, [Andrews] painted at a small studio in Berkeley. But Andrews has an objective that goes far beyond his own work. His concern is to promote young black artists. "No artist would be so presumptuous as to say that this person is going to be an artist" he said. "But I try to explain the meaning of art and open up avenues for them that will be useful in the future."
