Sun Kam Wah first opened his bazaar at 714-1/2 Dupont Street in San Francisco. The company later expanded to 716 Dupont, and would become one of the leading importers in the Chinatown district. Hit hard during the earthquake of 1906, one source claims the millionaire suffered losses of $500,000, but another reports that Sun Kam Wah was well-insured, and along with his fellow business-owners in, would be responsible for building a "new and greater Chinatown" once insurance adjustments were settled.
