This meticulously-organized booklet documents the road work done on the Willow Creek Pass highway in Colorado during the mid-1950s. Some photographs, despite utilitarian intent, function as beautiful landscapes along the winding roads of the Rocky Mountains. The images were taken during the late summer and early fall seasons of 1954 and 1955 and show bird’s eye views of the lush green forests and sweeping mountain sides in full daylight; Rows of evergreens line the horizon where the mountain peaks look over, meeting the sky.
Also featured more prominently in the second half of the booklet are interesting mid-construction photographs featuring scenarios such as a fix of an improper installation of an under-drain. A procession of various construction cars, referred to as the motor patrol, are on view servicing the roads; from digging up pipes, transporting materials, and laying the asphalt. One image shows a close up of the road to exhibit the newly laid, smooth roadbed with an artistically-placed pen and cigarette pack for scale.
