This sensitively-observed suite of photos documents the changing lives of Ute families in Eastern Utah after receiving the first installment of a large payout for oil discovered on their tribal lands. One photo shows a family acquiring their first at home freezer, another shows a boy buying a fashionable pair of cowboy boots, and another shows voting day to fill a vacant spot on the Ute tribal council.
