A handsome late-19th century promotional cabinet card photograph offering a birds-eye-view of the bustling coastal town of Redondo Beach, California. Present in the image are numerous shops and businesses, the Redondo train station, throngs of beach-goers, and the famed Redondo Hotel.
This photograph is from a series of “Views of Los Angeles and Vicinity” by the pioneering commercial photographer Charles C. Pierce. On the back of the card, there is a lengthy description of Los Angeles, supplied by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, describing the area’s climate, crops, commercial activities, missions, ports and other attributes of the growing metropolis.
