This radiant press photograph captured a rare scene of an Aurora Borealis over the New York City skyline 1941. On the verso there is an affixed caption which declares:
"The blazing Mazdas of the Great White Way played second fiddle last night when the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) put on this magnificent show with the Heavens for its stage. The rare phenomenon brought thousands of New Yorkers to their Rooftops to "oh" and "ah" as the celestial display wove ever-changing patterns. Radio and telegraph officials thoughts the whole thing a pain in the neck. For it caused a magnetic disturbance that upset communications."
