About a quarter of the album is dedicated to beautiful, hand-colored photographs of native flowers, plants, and fruits. These images are each 3 x 4 inches, and most bear subject identification, in pencil, on the verso of the print. There are also larger, hand-colored photographs, printed with holiday greetings.
There are also a number of beautiful, artistic views of the island, completed by the well- known photographer James J. Williams, including lovely moonlight views, soft-focus landscape shots, and some important early images of surfers. These were created earlier than the albums compilation, sometimes in the teens or 20s.
Also included are views of royalty; lava beds; views of traditional customs; and photographs related to the compiler’s work for a Chinese mission school on the island.
Back cover missing, otherwise nice condition.
