In 1874, the San Diego Daily Union published a guide and business directory entitled "Information Relative to the City of San Diego, California." It featured 22 photographs (21 present here), by Charles Pierce Fessenden and brothers Parker & Parker, showing views of San Diego. Interestingly, no photographs in the directory show the Old Town. Instead, they depict businesses in recently constructed buildings in the new downtown, as if to promote and encourage the future prosperity of the burgeoning city.
