In the years following its introduction in 1907, Seeley experimented extensively with the Autochrome color process, producing pictorialist studies of flowers, impressionistic landscapes, and quiet domestic scenes. The photographer spent most of his life in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where his family lived and father worked as superintendent of Linwood, the country estate of lawyer Charles Butler. The estate and its surrounding landscape became a familiar and repeated subject of Seeley's photographic explorations.
